The camera operates under the guidance of a powerful DIGIC X image processing processor. An attractive feature of the model is the advanced Dual Pixel CMOS AF II autofocus system with AI-based object recognition. The mirrorless camera's autofocus locks onto the eyes and faces of people, animal snouts, cars, etc.
The minimum focusing time is claimed to be 0.03 sec. When shooting with a mechanical shutter, the Canon EOS R8 body can achieve a burst rate of up to 6 fps — the duration of a series in any format exceeds 1000 frames. The electronic shutter allows increasing the continuous shooting speed up to 40 fps, but the camera's memory buffer fills up in just 2-3 seconds.
Shooting results are recorded on a UHS-II SD card. Videography with the camera is performed at a maximum resolution of 4K at 60 fps. The model supports shooting in Log 3 10-bit with 4:2:2 subsampling, and it also offers recording in HDR PQ and HDR. The only thing the mirrorless camera lacks is an in-body image stabilization system. Otherwise, the camera is fully equipped with everything you need.

Similarity to the previous model
The camera borrowed a 24-megapixel matrix and DIGIC X image processor from its older brother. In addition, the model is equipped with an improved Dual Pixel CMOS AF II phase autofocus system, which uses artificial intelligence algorithms to recognize objects in the frame. However, it is worth noting that the mirrorless camera has lost its built-in stabilizer. When shooting, you will have to rely on electronic stabilization or stabilized optics.
Speed characteristics
The camera is equipped with a mechanical shutter, which allows for continuous shooting at a speed of up to 6 fps. If desired, the user can switch to an electronic shutter, which provides a speed of up to 40 fps, but in this case, the memory buffer quickly runs out of space. Photos are saved to a UHS-II SD card, for which one slot is provided.
Video shooting capabilities
Video shooting is available in resolutions up to 4K at 60 fps. It is carried out using the entire matrix area and without significant time restrictions. The model also supports 10-bit gamma curve profiles: C-Log3 and HDR PQ.
