A high-performance M.2 solid-state drive aimed at the mass market. It is part of the updated line of high-speed WD Black hard drives based on the updated Innogrit IG5220 platform, which intelligently uses technical solutions in both the low-cost and the elite class. In particular, we are talking about the use of a quad-channel controller with support for HMB technology, which has replaced expensive SDRAM buffer memory.
Within its family, the model belongs to older solutions, but in general it can be attributed to the middle price segment. It is positioned as the optimal solution for modern gaming PCs and laptops that support the NVMe interface and the PCI-E 4.0 data bus. According to the manufacturer, the new platform provides an optimal balance between the final cost, reliability of the drive and the speed of its operation.
The press release talks about a 40% increase in performance and a 20% improvement in energy efficiency up to 20% over the previous generation of WD Black drives. The WD SN770 model range includes 250 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB options. The 1TB version is the fastest, with read throughput of 5150MB/s and write throughput of 4900MB/s. A high level of reliability is confirmed by a 5-year official warranty and a decent guaranteed write resource (TBW) of 600 TB. The proprietary WD Dashboard utility that comes with the drive for monitoring temperature and health, copying and backing up data, archiving and backup.
