Powerful 16-core mid-range processors from the 13th generation Intel Core i7 family (Raptor Lake, 10 nm). The manufacturer is positioning them as models in the upper price category for experienced gamers, streamers and enthusiasts who are looking for a truly powerful and modern processor for games and do not see the need to overpay for a conventional Core i9. They can also provide a reliable foundation for production builds for IT professionals, artists, animators, music producers and other creative industry workers who need a modern, high-performance system.

One of the key features of the Raptor Lake architecture is the division of cores into powerful P-cores and energy-efficient E-cores, similar to how it is implemented in mobile ARM processors. P-cores are designed to handle demanding tasks such as games or resource-intensive applications, while E-cores are designed to handle background processes with lower power consumption. This architecture allows you to optimize system performance and reduce overall power consumption.

Unlike its predecessors, the cores are divided 50/50: 8 P cores + 8 E cores. The former support multi-threaded loads and 5.3 GHz turbo boost, the latter process only one thread at a time and, if necessary, overclock from 2.5 to 4.2 GHz. Thanks to the support of Hyper Threading technology, the total threads reach 24 pieces. Compared to its predecessors from the Alder Lake family, the 13th generation of Core i7 chips had an increase in IPC (the number of operations performed by the processor per processor cycle), the volume of L2 cache was increased, and the maximum speed of DDR5 RAM also increased from 4800 to 5600 MHz.

At the same time, all Core i7 Raptor Lake processors are capable of working with more conventional DDR4-3200 RAM. They also support 16 lanes of the PCI-E 5.0 system interface, providing incredible data transfer speeds for video cards, top-end NVMe SSD drives and network adapters. Models in this line have an LGA 1700 connector and are designed for installation in motherboards with 6XX and 7XX series chipsets. For optimal use of the hybrid architecture, a motherboard with support for Thread Director technology is required, as well as a modern tower cooler, since the maximum TDP at peak load can reach 253 W. Core i7 Raptor Lake processors with indices K and KF are identical to each other, with the exception of the absence of integrated graphics in KF.

great model, love it

Gaming, streaming, Photoshop, 3D modeling, editing, rendering — it's unfazed by everything, mega cool and works stably, Intel did an excellent job. I've done no undervolting, the processor runs in stock mode, boosts to 5.4 GHz with no issues, I use Asus ROG Ryuo III 360 ARGB for cooling, idle temperatures are 34-42 °C, and during game streaming and video rendering 52-57 °C.
To date, there is no task that this processor would not cope with.

One of the most successful Intel processors in recent years

After rebranding the line from Intel Core to Core Ultra, Intel offered a wide selection of current mid-range models for various platforms. Among them, hybrid processors from past generations stand out, such as Intel Core i7-13700K, Core i5-14600K, and the newer Core Ultra 5 225. Considering the price-to-performance ratio, the most interesting option remains the Core i7-13700K, despite its age.

Core i7-13700K: 16 cores, 24 threads

The Intel Core i7-13700K is a powerful 16-core, 13th generation processor (Raptor Lake) with a hybrid architecture combining 8 performance P-cores and 8 energy-efficient E-cores. It supports multithreading, handling up to 24 threads simultaneously. The base frequency of the P-cores is 3.4 GHz with overclocking capability up to 5.4 GHz, while the E-cores operate at frequencies from 2.5 to 4.2 GHz.

The processor is compatible with the LGA 1700 socket and supports both DDR4 and DDR5 memory, providing flexibility during assembly. It is also equipped with a PCI-E 5.0 interface, allowing the use of modern graphics cards and high-speed SSDs.

Not the newest LGA 1700 platform

Compared to the Core Ultra 5 225, the Core i7-13700K significantly wins due to supporting 24 threads versus 10. And compared to the Core i5-14600K, it offers more cores, higher clock speeds, and approximately 15-20% better performance in resource-intensive tasks. Thanks to this, the processor is perfect for both gaming and professional applications requiring serious computing resources.

The only downside is the use of the LGA 1700 platform, which isn't the newest and limits upgrade possibilities in the future. Additionally, under heavy load, the processor can consume up to 250 W of power, requiring quality cooling. For stable operation, it is recommended to use a powerful tower cooling system or liquid cooling.
