Full-frame "seven" from the Alpha series in the second generation with a twist in the face of a 5-axis matrix stub. It compensates for camera movements in five different directions, allowing you to gain up to 4.5 stops of exposure when shooting handheld or in low light conditions. The mirrorless image sensor was inherited from the first-born full frame of the system — a 24 MP matrix with a sensitivity range of 100-25600 ISO units is installed on board the camera, and the Bionz X image processor runs all the business.

Also from the original A7, the mirrorless camera got a hybrid auto focus system (117 phase sensors and 25 contrast). At the same time, the prerogative of shooting video is left to the "seven" with the S index — Sony A7 II kit 28-70 records videos in the maximum resolution of FullHD (1080 / 60p). The model's additional assets include an electronic viewfinder with 100 percent frame coverage and a tilting display without touch input support. Moreover, the camera cannot be called a long-liver — on a full “tank” of a 1080 mAh battery, a mirrorless camera is capable of capturing as many as 350 shots. This camera kit comes with a standard Sony SEL-2870 28-70mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS zoom lens.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Sony A7 II kit 28-70 is a highly regarded mirrorless camera, often praised for its full-frame sensor and five-axis stabilization, which deliver excellent image quality and sharp shots. Users appreciate its compact size and lightweight design, making it convenient for travel and extended use. The camera features a bright electronic viewfinder and offers a range of customizable settings, including the ability to connect vintage lenses through adapters. It supports USB charging and has built-in wireless modules for smartphone control. However, the battery life is a common concern, with many recommending the purchase of additional batteries. While the kit lens is versatile, some users note it isn't the sharpest across the field. Despite these minor drawbacks, the Sony A7 II is celebrated for its superb video quality and overall performance, making it a popular choice for both beginners and experienced photographers.

great model, love it

I've had the camera for over 4 years now. Switched from canon 5dm2. I gradually switched to the system, at first I used Canon glass through an adapter. As new Sony lenses appeared, I collected a stock of the original glasses I needed. I’m looking towards the a7m3, but for now I’ll tell you what I like and don’t like about this camera. At Sony, each lens produces a special image, unlike anything else. Canon has the same picture, only the focal length changes. And I don’t have soapy and not sharp shots, as was the case with the Canon!!! I have no question whether or not to take the camera for a walk, since it is small and light. The DSLR was often left idle at home. I'm used to the grip. I can’t call autofocus ideal, something average. I recently went to the store and tested the autofocus on the a7m3, and I can say it’s perfect. What is really upsetting is that the battery is very weak and discharges very quickly. I think it would be more fun with a touch screen.
Full-frame sensor, five-axis stabilization, large selection of lenses, always sharp shots, high working ISO.
Very weak battery.

great model, love it

A high-end and cutting-edge mirrorless camera or, as it is also called, the “DSLR killer” from Sony. Before this camera, I didn’t even know that full-frame matrices were put on mirrorless cameras.
All the photos taken with this camera can be divided into three categories: good, excellent, and magnificent. After all, a full-frame sensor combined with a fast processor and good firmware are capable of a lot. The advanced five-axis matrix stabilization system together with an optically stabilized lens provide a noticeably effective result. The quality of the combined work of the two stabilizers is especially evident when shooting video from a moving platform. By the way, the video quality is superb. Full 1080 at 60p will satisfy even the most discerning amateur, and this is not only due to the sensor and optics but also thanks to Sony's new XAVC-S codec with a bitrate of up to 50 Mbps and expanded color depth. Such video and burst shooting in RAW require a fast memory card. IMHO, for all possible situations, a speed of at least 100-150 Mbps is needed. I would call the rear three-inch display one of the best in its class, but it only swivels in one plane. However, for 98% of situations, this is sufficient. The electronic viewfinder is also good.
Limited range of compatible optics. I shoot with an FE 28-70mm F3.5-5.6 OSS. Very loud shutter. You can't do discreet shooting with such a sound; everyone immediately notices and pays attention. No built-in flash. They could have at least installed a poor one. The battery could be more capacious.
The quality of the photo and the price of the camera overlap all the shortcomings, I recommend

A better frame-by-frame camera for its price, but not without flaws.
The first thing to start with is the price. You get a full-frame camera for matrix stabilization. Bright electronic viewfinder. Many customizable settings. The ability to connect any vintage lens through adapters. Fairly accurate autofocus, with face and eye focus function, but only with a separately programmed button and doesn't work with every lens. Good build quality and materials, possibility of charging from a power bank, no need to remove the battery. Lightweight body, good microphone quality when recording video. Relatively inexpensive accessories and a wide selection. There is the possibility of control through a smartphone.
The screen is non-touch, with frankly weak autofocus when recording video, eye focusing works so-so and only forcibly frame by frame. VERY weak battery, with large zooms and stabilization on, up to 200 shots; with manual and no stabilization and in flight mode - up to 500 shots. The native smartphone app is quite buggy. The settings menu is confusing. Also, the camera likes to lag, especially when turning on and off. The shutter is quite loud. It takes a long time to charge with the included charger.

Video reviews

All three second versions of Sony's full-frame mirrorless series are pulling to the role of flagships: the A7 II, A7R II and A7S II models. The most affordable option among this trio is the first model.

Double stabilization

The Sony A7 II was the debut full-frame camera equipped with a 5-axis matrix image stabilizer(up-down, right-left, along its own axis). Only cameras of the same series can compete with the model in this regard. The stub allows you to win up to 4-5 steps of exposure. Those. getting blur in the image when shooting at slow shutter speeds with hands has become more difficult. Plus, stabilization by means of optics has not gone anywhere (if there is a built-in stabilizer on board). In fact, we are dealing with dual image stabilization — both through the matrix and through the lens.

compactness

Since the Sony Alpha A7 II is a mirrorless camera, it is almost twice as light as its mirror counterparts. Accordingly, its dimensions are smaller. But not to the detriment of ergonomics — the controls on the "carcass" of the camera are thoughtfully and sensibly. Convenience in the process of filming adds an inclined screen, which is easy to sight from the lower and upper angles. It is non-touch, so you will have to set the focus point using the keys. By the way, the model is equipped with 4D autofocus with 117 phase focus sensors located directly on the matrix. The focus system does not smear even in the dark.

Optics park

In Sony Alpha systems, only one thing upsets — an undeveloped fleet of optics. Naturally, this is a matter of time and in the near future the variety of lenses will grow. So far, you have to be content with what you have, or use the optics of third-party systems installed through an adapter. A plus in this state of affairs still exists: even the oldest manual lens will be stabilized.

Balance

The camera will become a faithful companion for a landscape painter or a lover of shooting architecture. For reporting purposes, it is less suitable — this is not facilitated by the overall responsiveness and short duration of operation on a single battery charge. Also, the model is one of the most balanced options on the market in terms of price-quality ratio.
