This is one of the must-have lenses for micro 4-3. No matter how much I photograph with it, I never cease to be amazed at the sharpness even at 1.8 (although there will be a very small depth of field here). Excellent creamy bokeh. The autoscrew is lightning fast, accurate and quiet. I have had the opportunity to hold in my hands many portrait lenses for other systems, including FF, and I can say with confidence that this is one of the best lenses in general. The only pity is that the body is plastic and somewhat cheap to the touch. Sharp, fast, good aperture, compact. Plastic case. |
Good sharpness and background blurring help in capturing simply stunning portrait photos. It may not be the best choice for recording large panoramic views, but for video recording where a sharp and rich foreground is needed - it's perfect. Excellent lens. I bought it for the Olympus PEN E-PL1. Good sharpness, the lens focus is very quiet in operation, virtually inaudible. Photos turn out very vibrant, yet still look quite natural. Video is top-notch. The only downside is sometimes missing a lens hood, which for some unknown reason, the manufacturers do not include with this device. Very quiet lens focus operation, video quality is excellent. Lens hood not included. |
No, why won't it work? If you put it on a tripod panoramic head, it takes excellent panoramas - and excellent sharpness helps it here. As for the rest, I agree - it’s a very high-quality lens, but in backlit conditions it needs a lens hood - they really could have installed it. Sharp, lightweight, compact, beautiful bokeh, fast and correct focus no hood included |
The “folk portrait” for Olympus and Panasonic mirrorless cameras with the model name M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f / 1.8 is one of the first-born of the Micro 4/3 system, which is still relevant today.
Much in everything
With a high aperture of f/1.8 and a long focal length (90mm in 35mm film equivalent), the prime blurs the background well and draws a soft creamy "bokeh". Moreover, the minimum focus distance of the model is 50 cm, which does not limit the scope of the lens to portraits only. He is also equally good at close-up and subject photography.
Compact form factor
The length of the lens turned out to be less than a matchbox (46 mm), and the “glass” weighs some miserable 116 g. Nevertheless, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1. and in conjunction with large-caliber Olympus mirrorless cameras of the OM-D line. In addition, the model is distinguished by high build quality — the plastic body of the lens is easy to confuse with a metal one, although such is a purely bayonet mount.
Price quality
The fix gives excellent sharpness to the centre in the centre of the frame from the widest aperture (f / 1.8). However when shooting with an open aperture, images are often accompanied by visible chromatic aberrations at the boundaries of high-contrast transitions. It is easy to overcome them in a photo editor, and HA can be opposed by the fact that the lens perfectly holds backlight. When shooting on it, you can do without a hood, which is not in the standard configuration. The bottom line is that the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 45mm f/1.8 has the best price/quality ratio among its colleagues in the portrait workshop and deserves to join the ranks of mirrorless optics for owners of Micro 4/3 cameras.
