Model overview based on user reviews
The Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge is highly regarded as an excellent gaming processor with strong overclocking capabilities, allowing users to boost performance significantly. It supports triple-channel memory operation at a 1066 frequency, making it a solid choice for gaming and demanding tasks like video editing and 3D work. Users appreciate its stability and smooth operation, even under heavy loads, such as running multiple applications or playing intensive games like Battlefield 3. However, some users feel the price is high, especially considering the availability of cheaper AMD alternatives with similar performance. Despite being an older model, it remains relevant, though some note minimal progress compared to previous versions. Overall, it's recommended for those looking to build a powerful gaming PC, but enthusiasts seeking maximum overclocking may need additional cooling solutions.

Excellent gaming processor
15 March 2011
I've been using it for 4 months. It works stably. Hardly any CPU load! I got the regular version without a cooler. Thought for a long time about which one to get and finally decided on the i7-960. I overclocked it right away, as I felt it was insufficient and would have to anyways in the future. In terms of overclocking, I got it from 3.2 to 4.2. After overclocking, it started running incredibly fast. So for anyone looking to build a really good gaming PC, this is a strong contender for purchase.
an excellent processor for gaming; the CPU doesn't get overloaded and can be overclocked well.

Good gaming CPU.
9 March 2011
I bought it for my home PC. I wanted to build a gaming rig. I got myself an i7 950. I'm happy with my purchase. I already had a cooler, so I gave the one from the boxed version to a friend. The first month, it worked without overclocking. It's stable in operation and doesn't particularly load the CPU. I decided to overclock it because I was curious, and I would have had to do it eventually anyway. I overclocked it with no problems from its 3.06 MHz to 4209 MHz. After the overclocking, the speed of work increased significantly. No CPU load at all. Everything is running smoothly. The same goes for games. So, for those who want to spend the money and get a good chip, this is just what you need. For those who don't have that kind of money, there are AMD processors available which are much cheaper.
excellent gaming processor, overclocks well, triple-channel memory operation at 1066 frequency.
The only downside is the price, I think it could have been cheaper. As for the performance, everything is stable, no problems, I've been using it for 4 months already.

Processor with excellent overclocking capabilities
1 March 2011
Started building a gaming machine for myself and decided to get the Core i7 950 on a friend's recommendation. As for the included cooler, it's nothing special. If you don't plan on overclocking, the stock one is more than sufficient. It's very quiet during operation. A week after purchase, I decided to overclock it. Overclocked it to 4209MHz. As a result, I achieved a 37.6% increase in performance compared to the standard frequency. And the most pleasing part is that the processor voltage remained within the specified limits. I think it's an excellent processor for gaming or working with video and 3D.
good overclocking capability, supports triple-channel memory operation with a frequency not exceeding 1066.
did not find any for myself
