Affordable 12th Gen Intel Core i3 4-core processor from the Alder Lake family. It is manufactured on the basis of an optimized 10nm process technology and is designed for installation in Socket 1700 motherboards. It is a representative of the entry-level class, has a modest heat dissipation of 65W and is not among the overclocking chips for enthusiasts. Unlike the older Core i5/i7/i9 processors from the Alder Lake family, which are equipped with performant and energy-efficient cores, this model uses exclusively performant Performance class cores.

They support Hyper-Threading automatic overclocking technology and are able to process two computational threads simultaneously. There are four such cores in total, in normal mode they operate at a frequency of 3.3 GHz, and in case of a lack of computing power, they can be accelerated to 4.3 GHz. Unlike previous generations of Core i3 chips, Intel Core i3 Alder Lake supports both the usual DDR4 RAM (maximum frequency 3200 MHz) and the new DDR5 class memory (maximum frequency 4800 MHz) with a limit of 128 GB. Such a processor is best suited for multi-purpose home systems, not too demanding workstations and entry-level gaming computers designed for gaming in Full HD resolution.

Homogeneous architecture

The Intel Core i3-12100F is currently the base processor for building a gaming PC. Built on a homogeneous, not a hybrid architecture. That is, unlike the older Core 12000 chips, it lacks additional energy-efficient cores. But it has four cores and eight threads of the fastest existing Alder Lake architecture.

When i3 is faster than i5

Just a few generations ago, only the flagship Core i7 could boast of such a number of cores and threads. Due to the high IPC (the number of instructions executed per clock), the frame rate in most games surpasses the more multi-core Core i5-10400F and Ryzen 5 4500. And it is approximately on the same level with the more expensive 11400F and 5600X.

Core i3-12100F automatically overclocks from base 3.3 to boost 4.3 GHz. The F-version of the processor does not have an integrated video card, but there are two RAM controllers at once: DDR4-3200 and DDR5-4800 MHz. The box package includes a simple Intel Laminar RM1 cooler: it is enough to cool the processor, but alas, you cannot call it quiet.
