Inexpensive internal hard drive from the 2013 Toshiba MQ family of mobile 2.5″ HDDs. This line includes 4 models with a capacity from 160 to 500 GB, which are designed to solve the widest range of household and simple professional tasks. It is positioned as a product of the basic price category, which is focused on use in entry-level laptops, mobile HDD cases and small-sized desktop PCs.

It is a reliable solution for storing work projects files and moderate amounts of high- and ultra-high-definition multimedia content. The Toshiba MQ01ABDxxx 2.5″ MQ01ABD050 hard drive can be used as a system drive or paired with a performant SSD. Due to its small overall dimensions (thickness 9.5 mm) and compatibility with the popular SATA1/2/3 interface, it is suitable for upgrading existing mobile computers. Increased resistance to dynamic overloads (up to 400G for 2 ms) and off state (up to 900G for 1 ms). Due to the moderate rotation speed of magnetic plates 5400 rpm and an economical controller, it demonstrates low heat dissipation (1.5 W when reading / writing).

Model overview based on user reviews
The Toshiba MQ01ABDxxx 2.5" hard drive series is widely noted for its affordability, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious consumers. However, the reviews reveal significant concerns regarding its reliability and durability. Many users report issues such as loud operational noise, frequent failures, and bad sectors developing over time. Some users experienced these problems shortly after purchase, while others noted failures after a couple of years of use. Despite a few positive comments about its quiet operation and satisfactory performance in specific tasks, the overall sentiment is that the drive is unreliable and prone to failure, leading to data loss. Consequently, potential buyers are advised to consider these factors and possibly opt for more reliable storage solutions like SSDs, which offer better performance and longevity.

Well, if you need an HDD and don't have much money...

It just is, it just works. It came along with a Fujitsu laptop and overall showed itself quite well. Yes, it's not fast, but it served me for about 6 years in a work laptop, and it's still working now. For instance, a newer WD Blue died much faster.

I used it purely for work programs for diagnostics and selecting car parts, and maybe Photoshop and a few other heavy applications. It performed quite well. Programs opened quickly, and the browser also had pretty good performance.

Yes, it's quite noisy when it operates, noticeably louder than the laptop's cooling system. In all other aspects, everything is fine; its S.M.A.R.T. status shows as good. Would I buy it now? Of course not! Why would I? Hard drives are a thing of the past. Now only SSDs. Faster, quieter. Yes, they are more expensive than HDDs, but at least you know what you're paying for.

Overall, a normal, ultra-budget storage device that, judging by the reviews, has a fairly high chance of being defective. It seems I was lucky that mine lasted so long.

I bought it as a file dump, I had an SSD with 250 GB on me. One morning it started making loud noises - I realized: this is a sign. I quickly turned it on and checked the status through Crystal Disk Info, and saw - poor technical condition and that very noise. That same day I tried to download GTA 5. I downloaded it, but the installer started saying that the final amount didn't match. The files didn't fully download. I thought the torrent was corrupted. I re-downloaded it several times - it was all the same. It stopped working altogether the next day. Well, how it stopped - it recognized all the files, but when trying to open or move them - the explorer would freeze dead in the middle of the operation. It died after 800 hours.
Bottom line: I'm left with a dead disk, SSD, no money, I downloaded GTA 5.
Trash the Toshiba drives! Down with reallocated sectors!
