Reliable, performant and capacious 3.5″ internal hard drive from the 2016 Seagate IronWolf HDD family. This line includes 9 models with volumes from 1 GB to 14 TB, the design and firmware of which is optimized for solving the problems of long-term storage of information in NAS-arrays. It is positioned as a product of the upper price category, designed for use in home and office multi-disk storage connected to the local network using high-speed network cable or wireless connections.
This model has been tested and approved by QNAP. In addition, it can be used as an additional high-capacity HDD in a universal home PC, gaming or multimedia system. The Seagate IronWolf ST4000VN008 hard drive is not recommended for use as a system hard drive, but it will perfectly cope with storing large volumes of work project files, backups, video, photo and audio content of the highest quality. This model uses classical magnetic recording (CMR) technology, which allows achieving high sequential read / write speeds (up to 180 MB / s), and the magnetic platters themselves rotate at a speed of 5900 rpm. This provides moderate heat dissipation (3.95 watts at idle), which is important when building quiet cooling home NAS systems.

It's too early to talk about reliability, time will tell. I'll update the review if so. -Good speeds, around 170MB/s for read/write. The wd Red 2TB has worse performance. -Doesn't heat up. In 33-degree heat, the drive maintains 43 degrees while working. -Quiet, no vibrations. I fell for a lot of reviews about silence and bought a 2 GB model, in fact the unit turned out to be very noisy, well, for me personally. In silence, you can hear buzzing, dull humming, chirping, etc. from 2 meters away. It also constantly turns on and off, and this is especially noisy. I had to buy a soundproof box, but even in it the operation of the unit is a little audible. Apparently people have a problem with their hearing, or are these marketer provocateurs writing about silence. Possibly a reliable unit according to reviews... 1. Packaging. It's like a candy wrapper; many products in stores are packaged much better. 2. Noise, probably all the hard drives make noise..., haven't changed them in 11 years. |

P.S. I'm actually surprised why the 2 Tb versions are more expensive; basically, it's the same thing with less capacity.
