Model overview based on user reviews
The Samyang 8mm f/3.5 IF Aspherical MC Fish-eye lens is highly praised for its impeccable sharpness and resolution, both at the center and edges of the frame, making it an excellent choice for creating spherical panoramas. Users appreciate its build quality and affordability, noting that it performs better than more expensive alternatives like the Sigma 8mm. While there is a slight loss of sharpness when focusing at infinity and it tends to catch glare due to its spherical design, these issues are minor and can be corrected programmatically. The lens lacks autofocus, but setting the focus to infinity ensures clarity for subjects beyond 1.5 meters. Overall, it offers exceptional value for its price, especially compared to similar models from leading manufacturers.
Pros

Cons

The perfect lens for creating spherical panoramas.

Do not keep going endlessly; you need to stop the guidance when the point in the viewfinder is established, indicating focusing accuracy (Nikon D800E). It is much better than the much more expensive Sigma 8mm.
Impeccable sharpness, impeccable resolution both in the center and at the edge of the frame.
A slight loss of sharpness when aiming at infinity, moderate HA.

for its ridiculous price, in comparison with analogues, consider there are no shortcomings. has slight problems with focusing on infinity - if the space is open, it lathers slightly, and at any aperture. however - it is easily treated programmatically. likes to catch glare and bunnies - but this is not surprising, the lens is spherical. analogues from leading manufacturers are 3-4 times more expensive. The assembly of the lens is also not satisfactory. focusing is not automatic, but if you set the focus to infinity, then everything further than 1.5 meters will be clear.

From November 25, 2011, the lens version for Nikon will be updated. The lens will be equipped with a built-in microprocessor. The presence of a processor provides full control over exposure parameters at the camera level and the correct operation of i-TTL flashes.
