A large 4K monitor with strict features in appearance was created with an eye to use as a working tool or the main link of a multimedia home entertainment centre. The screen of the model has no bends and is based on a 31.5-inch VA-matrix with QLED quantum dot technology. Thanks to the introduction of the latest feature, the Samsung U32J590 is capable of reproducing over a billion colours.
The default screen resolution is 3840x2160 pixels. Support for AMD FreeSync adaptive frame rate sync technology makes the model a suitable solution for gamers, but it is worth remembering that the maximum frame rate on the display is 60 Hz. There are more than enough technologies at the disposal of the monitor: MagicBright, Eco Saving Plus, Flicker Free, picture-in-picture and picture-to-picture — just a small fraction of them. The set of interfaces on board the model is represented by HDMI 2.0, HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 connectors and a headphone jack (the device does not have its own speakers). When standing on the stand, the monitor is only tiltable. Instead, you can use a 100x100 mm VESA wall mount (the bracket is not included in the package).

An excellent choice for a gamer at the best price in its segment. The perfect balance of quality and cost, nothing superfluous in the monitor itself and, as a result, a good price tag. The colors are bright and saturated, almost like on AMOLED phones (not 99.9% sRGB, but suitable for the user). Deep black. Especially noticeable in dark movies like Harry Potter. In all scenes, details in the shadows are well distinguishable and the image is not washed out. I set the gamma mode on the monitor to the third. Freesync makes games super smooth, but you need a powerful computer and preferably an AMD video card (GeForce from the 10 series and definitely a DisplayPort cable). I was only disappointed in my video card - the GTX 1070 is rather weak at 4k, the new products are only at 1440p/high settings. The monitor is a gun! ![]() |
There is a problem. The monitor is connected through a UPS, with the signal via an HDMI-HDMI cable directly from the PC or from a laptop with a VGA output through a converter. Periodically, in both cases, the image disappears (flickers) for 1-2 seconds. When the big monitor duplicates the laptop's monitor, the big one "flickers," but the laptop monitor works fine (doesn't flicker). The flickering period varies, no pattern is noticeable. Is it a monitor defect? I'm investigating... Big. Resolution 4k. No VGA input. When connecting a laptop with VGA, a converter adapter is needed. ![]() |
Low-cost monitor with quantum dot technology
When it comes to updating the product range, the Korean giant is rationalistic, often rethinking the models of past years in a new way. For example, the hero of this review, the Samsung U32J590UQI monitor is the younger brother of the popular U32H850UMI monitor, which at one time trumped a quantum dot-based matrix, as in Samsung's flagship TVs. In the press release of the Samsung U32J590UQI, quantum dots also flicker, but you should not count on miracles, as in expensive TVs from Koreans. In fact, this is a fairly simple and at the same time high-quality monitor that beats competitors due to the price and at the same time does not promise anything impossible.
Only the Essentials
The Samsung U32J590UQI uses a massive 32-inch VA panel with a resolution of 3840x2160 pixels. The matrix is characterized by a maximum brightness of 270 cd/m² and a contrast ratio of 3000:1. This is plus or minus the standard characteristics for entry-level monitors, there is nothing to add here. I liked that Samsung did not promise support for HDR content, like other manufacturers, realizing that it is simply impossible to pull out a wide dynamic range at this brightness. The same goes for gaming - no one at Samsung tries to pretend that this is a serious gaming monitor. In modern times, such marketing is respected.
Descendant monitor Samsung U32H850UMI
I also liked that the hero of this review retained many features of its predecessor U32H850UMI. They didn’t touch the practical case with small frames around the display and matte plastic, but they simplified the stand (now only the tilt is adjustable, this is a minus) and the cable management system (this is a plus). USB ports and built-in speakers have also gone under the knife. But they kept the factory colour calibration, thanks to which this low-cost monitor often produces a richer and more saturated picture than competitors a couple of thousand more expensive. And impressive, because at the time of this writing in June 2021, the Samsung U32J590 is the most affordable monitor in the 32-inch + 4K category. For $300 or so, this is a great candidate for a large work monitor or multimedia centre.
