Medium power impact drill for the widest range of low to medium intensity jobs. Equipped with a toothed cam key chuck and an additional thrust side handle, which greatly improves the control of the drilling process. The manufacturer is positioned as a product of the middle price category, intended for active domestic and occasional professional use. It can become a reliable assistant for a DIY-master, who is used to doing most of the home assembly and dismantling, construction and finishing work on his own.

Able to play the role of a spare or replacement tool in professional activities. The Makita HP1640K drill is equipped with a simple and reliable air-cooled commutator motor with a power consumption of 680 watts. To transform the high-speed rotation of the rotor into the rotation of the equipment (up to 1850 rpm), a durable single-speed gearbox based on a thermally hardened pair of steel gears is used. This model is capable of drilling simple structural steels (up to 13 mm in diameter), non-ferrous metals and alloys based on them, ceramics and soft mineral materials, polymers and any kind of wood (up to 30 mm in soft woods). Impact mode allows you to create holes in concrete (up to 16 mm).

Model overview based on user reviews
The Makita HP1640 drill is a popular choice for home use, offering a balance of affordability and functionality. It features a 680 W motor and a metal gearbox, making it suitable for drilling wood, metal, and medium-density concrete. Users appreciate its comfortable grip and ergonomic design, which allows for easy handling during various tasks. While some users have experienced issues with the chuck and noise at low speeds, others praise its reliability and durability over several years of use. The drill's impact mode is effective, though not as fast as a rotary hammer, and it lacks some professional features like protective sleeves. Despite some concerns about its longevity and service support, many find it a reliable tool for household tasks, with the ability to handle occasional professional work. However, some users feel the price is high for a non-professional tool, and there are mixed reviews regarding its build quality and service experience.

We have been using this model at home/dacha for about five years. Good, reliable car. It may not be super powerful, but it is more than enough for household tasks.
Excellent option for home, affordable price, reliable

Ideal drill for homework
30 October 2017
I have known the Makitov electric tool for a long time, when it was one of the best manufacturers. A lot of time has passed since that very first acquaintance, I no longer do finishing work, but when I needed a good power tool for cosmetic repairs in the apartment to which I was transporting my family, I again remembered a proven brand. And you know, Makita is still good. This, of course, is not a professional tool, but home needs, but it covers completely.
A good impact drill, actually an ideal home tool or a good option for occasional professional work. To make it clear why it is not suitable for serious tasks, I will say that all drills with a plastic gearbox housing are consumer goods. PRO-level models are equipped with an aluminium case, it removes heat much better and holds a blow if something happens. The speed is one, but with the help of a convenient button it can be more or less satisfactorily maintained in manual mode. A key type chuck, quite high quality made of excellent hard steel. You can drill wood (up to 30mm), concrete (up to 16mm) and steel (up to 13mm). True, there are no protective sleeves, as on professional models, so you need to be more careful with the jamming of the drill. The chance to burn the engine is small, but it is. Concrete in shock mode drills well. In terms of speed, in comparison with a rotary hammer, the difference is 3-4 times, but at home it does not matter. Ergonomic, comfortable in hand
IMHO, the price is too high. For a simple, albeit good, amateur-level drill, they want too much.
Do not buy this device and I do not recommend other products of the brand.

This tool doesn't hold up to criticism, and that extended warranty doesn't change anything. In a year and a half of owning this model, I've drilled between 20 to 50 holes in walls because I used the screwdriver for small holes, and I needed the drill specifically for its hammer function. It broke down in such a short period. The service technician who took the drill for repair said that the hammer function is only there to boost sales, and for making holes in walls, you should get a hammer drill.
Costs like half a Mercedes, you can make a gift that's worth showing off.
Not a long life cycle for the instrument, it is in warranty repair.
