Performance-cores are high-performance cores capable of simultaneously executing up to two computation threads. Efficient-core — energy-efficient cores do not support Hyper-Threading and are designed to handle background workloads.

Affordable 12-thread 12th Gen Intel Core i5 processor from the Alder Lake family. It is manufactured on the basis of an optimized 10nm process technology and is designed for installation in motherboards with Socket 1700 connector. It is a representative of the middle class with an optimal balance between price, performance and heat dissipation. The Core i5-12400F is manufactured using a new 10nm process technology and is designed for installation in a motherboard with a Socket 1700 connector.

Unlike older Core i7/i9 processors from the Alder Lake family, which are equipped with hybrid P and E cores, this model uses only P-nuclei. There are 6 such cores in total (+ 6 more virtual ones), in normal mode they operate at a frequency of 2.5 GHz, and in case of lack of computing power they can be overclocked to 4.4 GHz. The volume of the third level cache is 18 MB. An important innovation of the Alder Lake architecture is the use of the PCI-E 5.0 bus and simultaneous support for DDR4 3200 and DDR5 4800 RAM formats.

To install the processor, you will need a motherboard no earlier than 2020, equipped with an LGA 1700 socket and a 400 or 500 chipset series. The declared TDP of the model is 65 W, standard for the series; at peak load it can rise to 117 W. The stock cooler copes well with this heat dissipation. With an increased number of cores, increased clock speeds, and support for Hyper Threading technology, the Core i5-12400F's performance matches that of the previous and last generation Core i7 models, making it one of the best 6-core processors for gaming.
