2 versions of iPad Air with 11- and 13-inch screens
Unlike previous generations of Air with a 10.9-inch display, this time Apple decided to cast its net wider and introduced two variations of Air with an 11- and 13-inch display. Given the tablet's solid technical performance and the presence of the powerful Apple M2 chip, which was used in previous generations of iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, the new Air is begging to be called iPad Pro Lite. The M2 turned out to be not much more powerful than the M1, so it makes no sense for owners of the 2022 Air to run to the store for a new product. But if we compare the M2 with the A14 Bionic chip from the 2020 iPad Air, we will see a solid almost threefold increase in performance. In addition, versions with 512 GB and 1 TB of memory will go on sale.
iPad Air turns into iPad Pro
Both versions of the iPad Air 2024 feature 60Hz Liquid Retina displays with a built-in light sensor. Like the 2022 Air, the screen has a peak brightness of 500 nits, but this generation adds support for HDR10 and Dolby Vision. In principle, these are almost 1-in-1 characteristics of the iPad Pro 11 2022, which John Ternus, vice president of Apple development, did not fail to remind. According to him, the company is rethinking the role of the iPad Air in the line of tablets, aiming to give users as much of the capabilities of the iPad Pro as possible, but at a more affordable price.
Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard support
To ensure that words do not diverge from deeds, the Air tablets of 2024 received support for the Apple Pencil Pro stylus and the Magic Keyboard mobile keyboard (note: old version), which were previously supported only by firmware. Among other updates, the front camera stands out, which has finally moved from the top frame to the side, and support for Wi-Fi 6E has also been added. The body dimensions of the 11-inch version remain the same (247.6x178.5x6.1 mm), but the body is now made of recycled aluminium.
