During the time I've been using it, I'm completely satisfied. I got it for my file storage and various torrents. I haven't filled my 1 terabyte yet, but I'm getting there. I now realize that the price difference between 1 and 2 TB isn't that big. Maybe I should have gone for the larger option. Fast, quiet, and doesn't heat up at all. Even under the most active use, it only got to 43 degrees without any cooling. And that's with two more drives installed nearby. It says here that the speed varies from 5400 to 7200, though I don't notice that during operation. It runs fast and quiet as it is. I hope it will save me some energy too. The main drawback is the incompatibility with Win XP. However, the issue can be resolved using their WD Align utility. Though, it's another reason to switch to a newer OS. |
This hard drive belongs to the Blue series, a sort of mix between Black and Green. It's a completely universal device, working quickly when needed and completely silent when idle. If only those heads didn't park so loudly, it would be perfect. Quiet in operation. No parasitic vibrations. It only heats up to 36-38 degrees during use. I don't pay attention to the disk rotation speed, the main thing is that it works. And it works all day long distributing torrents. I hope it lasts as long as my first WD, which is already 7 years old. Every 8 seconds of inactivity, the drive heads park, and you can hear a clicking sound. It's really annoying, and I don't understand why this mode is enabled by default. Maybe it's to save energy. Fortunately, there's a utility that allows you to disable this. For it to work in Win XP, you need to put an additional jumper on the pins. |
Large capacity and a well-known manufacturer helped me make this choice. For several months now, I've been unsuccessfully trying to fill even half the capacity of this disk - so far the score is not in my favor. In operation, the disk is really almost silent. However, a more important criterion for me is its fast data reading and transfer. I think the disk is definitely worth the money. Either I'm not picky about things, or I try to buy good things.) So far, no flaws have emerged. |
