Steel 38 mm conical burrs. Solis uses a material that is not just cast but with "veins," "reinforcing ribs." The grinder is quite compact. There are no metal elements in the finishing; everything is made from quality plastic. The overall build quality is quite good. The grind for Moka (Geyser) is more uniform compared to De'Longhi KG 79, but it's understandable as the grinders belong to different price and coffee segments. Real burrs versus pseudo-burrs, although the De'Longhi KG 79 is not a bad grinder for its price, has been working since 2013 without major complaints and is still operational, only the burrs have worn down a little. For me and my use there are no disadvantages. |
narrow model
A fairly compact electric coffee grinder Solis Scala Plus is great for domestic use and will be in place in a professional kitchen. The coffee grinder with overall dimensions of 170x285x135 mm has a flat shape, but the small weight of the device, which is 1.5 kg, and the ABS plastic from which the body is made, cause noticeable noise in operation. Due to the small width of the device, it will be easier to find a place on a cramped kitchen table, but this advantage is partly leveled by the side regulator of the dispenser, to which it is necessary to provide free access. Eh, if it were transferred to the front panel, it would be much more convenient. A transparent container for 250 g of coffee beans is installed on the seat at the top of the device, and the ground powder fills the receiving container from the front. At the bottom of the stand there is a compartment for laying the coiled power cable, and rubber feet prevent slipping on the table. The grinding of grain into powder is carried out by millstones made of hardened stainless steel, which rotate at a speed of 420 rpm due to a 135 W electric motor.
Grinding adjustment by turning the feed hopper
The preparation of different types of coffee drinks requires different fineness of the ground powder for optimal flavor and aroma extraction. The model allows you to fine-tune the grinding of coffee beans for all sorts of ways to prepare drinks: from fine grinding Fine for real espresso to coarse grinding Coarse for brewing in a French press or filter coffee maker. Setting one of the 22 degrees of grinding is carried out by simply turning the loading container clockwise until the embossed pointer is aligned with the division of the annular scale of the body. The quantity of ground coffee, adjusted by the dispenser in the range of 1 – 10 cups, determines the operation time. When setting the grinding beans to 5 cups, the grinder will run for 30 seconds, and at the maximum powder output for 10 cups — 60 seconds.

The inconvenient controls have been improved. There is now a separate on/off button on the "forehead". This means there's no need to constantly turn the inconvenient timer on the side back and forth, and the grinding time can be set once without resetting each time.
Intermediate steps have been added to the grind adjustment and (more importantly) the minimum grind level has been made finer!
The ground coffee bin now has a lid, making it easier to pour, plus there's less coffee spillage outside the bin, resulting in less mess on the table under the coffee grinder.
