Model overview based on user reviews
The Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 series, including models like the ST500DM002, has received mixed reviews from users. Many appreciate its quiet operation, reasonable speed, and affordability, making it a popular choice for office and home use. However, reliability issues are a significant concern, with several users reporting failures within months of purchase, leading to a high percentage of defective units. Some users have experienced long service life, with drives lasting up to eight years, while others have faced early failures and performance issues such as overheating and noise. The product's performance is generally satisfactory for basic tasks, but its durability and consistency are questionable, making it a risky choice for those seeking long-term reliability. Overall, while the Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 offers good value for money, potential buyers should be cautious of its mixed reliability record.

the price is too high, in the village of Maryanovka (Omsk region) it is cheaper, in Omsk you can buy a Seagate Barracuda with a capacity of 1 ton for about 3000 rubles the brand itself speaks for itself, they are the best the price is too high, in the village of Maryanovka (Omsk region) it’s cheaper ![]() |
It's strange, even. For many years of using Seagates, I was always satisfied with these drives. So, I bought them without thinking. Especially the Barracuda series, they seemed to be practically indestructible. But, as practice showed, anything can happen in life. Maybe I just got a defective one :( At least I have the habit of making backups of everything that might come in handy. Now I'm thinking about what drives to get as replacements. I don't want to experiment with brands, but I'm also afraid to get the same ones. A big name, I have always respected Seagates. Quiet and cool during operation. No knocking or vibrations were noted. Normal read and write speeds. I bought three drives at once for three computers in the office. The first failed after three months, the second after three and a half, this morning. The third one is still holding up, I'm curious how much longer it will last. There were no special loads on the drives, just regular office use. use Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 month or more i recommend it should buy |
In short, this unrealistically ideal 500GB model has been serving me for 8 years - since 2011, I’m simply shocked! I don’t know about other models, but this is just ambily, I recommend it to everyone) well, it's all just price - quality after 4 years of operation it starts to warm up but nothing works. ![]() |
