Philips offers a budget-friendly and easy-to-use household iron. It is designed for both dry ironing and steaming. The classic rotary control allows you to select the optimal heating depending on the type of fabric. And in the steam mode, you can use a constant supply of steam at a speed of up to 25 g/min or a more intense (90 g/min) but short-term burst of steam, which will help smooth out stubborn creases and complex, dense materials.

The built-in spray creates a fine mist that evenly moisturizes the fabric and makes it easier to smooth out creases. In addition, the iron is suitable for vertical steaming - for example, if you need to freshen curtains or a suit hanging on a hanger. The water reservoir holds up to 220 ml and has a wide opening for easy refilling. Philips EasySpeed GC 1742 has a power of 2000 W, which ensures fast heating - ready for use within 30 seconds after switching on.

The sole has non-stick properties, glides easily on any material and distributes steam evenly due to the presence of steam holes over the entire surface. The Triple Precision tip helps smooth out creases in hard-to-reach places like collars, fasteners and buttons. It is also worth noting the low weight of about 700 g, an eco mode for economical energy consumption and the presence of a special Calc Clean slider for carrying out the self-cleaning procedure from scale.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Philips EasySpeed GC 1740 is a reliable household iron known for its smooth operation and perfect weight, making it convenient for everyday use. It features a non-stick metal soleplate that glides effortlessly over fabrics, ensuring a seamless ironing experience. Users appreciate its affordable price and durability, with the soleplate being resistant to damage even after accidental drops. While the steam output is slightly lower than some might prefer, it still performs well across various fabrics, from delicate chiffon to dense parkas. The iron includes useful features like vertical steaming and a self-cleaning descaling system, which prevents scale buildup and maintains performance. However, some users miss the absence of an auto-off feature for added safety. Overall, it's a budget-friendly option from a reputable brand, offering essential functions without compromising on quality.

Cons

Handles all fabrics
30 September 2020
a budget model from one of the best home appliance manufacturers. It may not have any super abilities, but this iron is quite suitable for home use. It is lightweight, weighing less than a kilogram. But that doesn't mean it irons poorly. It handles all kinds of fabrics, and you can press anything from a chiffon blouse to a parka made of dense fabric. It doesn't require any particular effort or pressure. The necessary effect is achieved through temperature. Moreover, the regulator doesn't look like those on Soviet irons, where there were just three dots and that's it. Here, in addition, fabric types are indicated alongside their corresponding temperature levels. In cases where high temperature is insufficient, I use steam or even a steam shot. I don't know what system is used here, but scale doesn't fall out onto the clothes or leave dirty marks (this used to happen often with old irons). The non-stick coating seems to be of quite good quality. When my husband helps, he tends to overdo things sometimes))) but not with this iron. After a year of active use, I have never had to clean it from any burnt residue; it simply doesn't burn. There is a scale cleaning system, which is quite simple but doesn't affect the essence. It's definitely a useful function. Not a bad iron, nothing to complain about.

great model, love it

I bought it after the GC2510 - which I purchased in 2012 and it's still working, but I wore out the soleplate for production purposes. I especially liked the soleplate on the old one - it glides amazingly, everyone who tried it noticed. The old one had a non-stick soleplate, so I was looking for the same, plus the soleplate was metallic, I dropped it twice and my wife once, and it didn’t affect it, while ceramic ones tend to break, so this was the second criterion for choosing this model. The difference is that the new soleplate is smaller, but overall it's even more convenient for ironing. There's less steam, but it doesn’t bother much, it still irons well. The price is low - read reviews on expensive models - they leak, stop turning on, and other issues which I find inexcusable for a price of 5-7k. Oh, and the cord only moves up and down here, while the old one had a ball that rotated in different directions. It doesn't bother me yet, but we'll see. The plastic doesn't creak, just like in the old one. Overall, a decent replacement. The only thing I miss is the auto-off function, as I forgot to turn it off a couple of times, thankfully everything turned out fine. All irons with the auto-off function seem to have ceramic plates, so I didn’t want to get them.
Smooth operation, perfect weight, non-stick metal, price
The steam could be 30 instead of 25, no auto-off feature.
