Are they needed in the era of batteries?

I used them as a power source for wall clocks until I put batteries in them. They were the best fit for this purpose. They are not very durable, so you should use them for something not very powerful, like clocks, remotes, or possibly medical devices. However, for toys and controllers, it's better to get something better, or even rechargeable batteries, which would be a much better option.

Even in clocks, they show relatively weak performance, lasting about a month to a month and a half, which, in my opinion, is quite weak. I have a manual watch powered by a battery that lasts 5-10 years, and here a wall clock can't even last a few months. But they have one big advantage: they are sold in almost every store, there are many of them, and they are relatively cheap. Yes, in every supermarket, you can find these Panasonic batteries hanging on the wall at every checkout with a dozen blisters.

Still, I believe that the era of batteries is coming to an end. Why buy a battery, then buy it again in a month, and then again, when you can buy a rechargeable battery and charge it as needed? I have AA rechargeable batteries that have been working daily since 2018. Just think of how much money I've saved on AA batteries! I invested 500 UAH once with a charger, and they lasted 6 years. So, are batteries really necessary?
