"Universal" for shooting anything and everything with coverage of the focal length range most in demand among photographers 24-70 mm. The model is offered as a "whale" (standard) for a number of full-frame mirrorless Nikon Z-family. The zoom lens uses a scheme of 14 elements in 11 groups, which includes one element with extra-low dispersion, one aspherical element with extra-low dispersion, three conventional aspherical elements and Nano Crystal coated lenses to reduce flare and ghosting.
When focus, the Nikon 24-70mm f/4.0 S Nikkor Z relies on a stepper motor for fast and accurate focus on the subject. The diaphragm of the model consists of seven petals and has an electromagnetic silent control. Its maximum aperture of f/4 remains the same throughout the zoom range. The lens weighs about half a kilogram, and its dimensions are 78 mm in diameter and 89 mm in length. The thread diameter for mounting on the front lens of the filter is 72 mm.

Strangely enough, this plastic lens (emphasizing the material since only the bayonet ring is metal) wasn't overly surprising, but it did manage to impress me with its photo quality and functionality. For instance, when shooting in manual mode, the ring functions as focus control, whereas in auto mode, it allows real-time aperture adjustments. This is awesome and enables more effective camera use, especially in active shooting modes. The ring itself is rubberized, providing a very smooth and pleasant operation, making it perfect for video shooting. I rarely shoot video, but with this lens, I feel encouraged to do so more often. During focusing (adjusting or changing focus), the image remains steady, meaning the lens doesn't breathe, allowing you to shoot objects from a close distance. The sharpness is excellent, worse at minimal focal lengths, better at maximum. But even at 24 mm with an open aperture, the image is great. Any minimal blurring is only noticeable at the edges and with a significant zoom. Overall, the image is very vivid, sharp, and without obvious distortions. Occasionally, you may notice some slight chromatic aberrations, particularly in distant areas. Between 50-70 mm, there are no issues at all. I will point out that at 24 mm, there is slight distortion, but using the camera's auto-correction nearly eliminates it. The lens is not heavy, quite compact, and suitable for travel. However, the filter diameter is 72 mm, so be prepared to invest in good filters. And here's another detail—it has a retractable barrel... Excellent sharpness. Wonderful optical qualities and minimal distortion at 24 mm. Autofocus is fast, and the focus ring is very smooth and easy to operate. The automatic mode allows you to change the aperture with the focus ring. Awesome results with very few defects. I consider the retractable hose to be the biggest drawback. Also, there's a 72 mm filter, so the filters will be expensive for it. |
