A simple budget flash drive. It has decent speed. Currently, the price is very attractive; I bought it for 500 UAH in 2018. The casing is not metal. It heats up during use. There is no protection for the connector. ![]() |
The bad thing is that almost all sellers are selling it as USB 3.0. Not a bad shape for tech who like medium-sized flash drives. It's not USB 3.0, but a device compatible with USB 3.0 with a performance speed no higher than USB 2.0. The CrystalDiskMark test shows a write speed of no more than 7 MB/s, though it should be substantially higher. ![]() |
bad product died after 18 days, I used to always praise Kingston, now I tell everyone it's junk. Unfortunately, I didn't keep the packaging, so they refuse to replace it under warranty. I didn't buy it from the official store. Not fast, maximum speed of 8.7 MB/s. Cons: turned out to be unreliable, after 18 days it showed as 0 bytes. convenient (the cap doesn't get lost) turned out to be unreliable and after 18 days was defined as 0 bytes. |

The top model of the DataTraveler 100 G3 series, manufactured by Kingston, the world leader in the Flash memory market, is a 128 GB drive. This is a plastic flash drive with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
Interesting sliding mechanism
Case Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 128Gb has a matte finish. A cap for the USB connector is not provided, as the model is equipped with a sliding mechanism with automatic locking in the closed and open position. On the back there is a loop for a lace.
The interesting form factor of the USB drive is complemented by a very compact size. Although the rather bulky width of the base (21 mm) can interfere with the connection of a second device to the adjacent port, which is worth considering for laptop owners.
It is possible to draw a picture on the body of a flash drive within the framework of the Co-Logo proprietary programme. This feature may be of interest to corporate buyers who need flash drives with branding elements (company logo image) and plan to purchase 100 or more drives.
USB 3.0 support
Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 128Gb complies with the third generation USB specification. Also, the flash drive provides backward compatibility with ports of the 2.0 standard. But the user will feel tangible advantages in speed only in terms of reading data — 100 MB / s. Recording, according to the data on the package, occurs at 10 MB / s, but in fact it often turns out to be 1.5 – 2.5 times slower.
With Kingston DataTraveler 100 G3 128Gb, you can quickly copy and play files, which is convenient, for example, when watching a movie from a flash drive on TV. But it will take longer to write data to a USB drive — from 1.5 to 3 minutes per 1 GB. If this point is not critical, then the model deserves your attention.
The speed is quite decent, not a rocket-drone, but it’s enough for my tasks. In tests, it shows a write speed of 17-18 MB/s and about 84 MB/s when reading from it, which is very good for a 6-year-old flash drive.
I really like the design. In previous flash drives, I constantly lost the caps on the contacts, but here there is a slide mechanism. Although it does not prevent dirt and dust from getting into the connector, so be careful when carrying the flash drive in your pocket or if it has been lying on the table for a long time, as something might get in there.
When writing, the plastic casing noticeably starts to heat up. By the way, unlike most flash drives on the market, this one does not have a write LED.
Can I recommend it? Yes, absolutely. I don’t know what people do with flash drives here in the reviews that they die on them; I assume there is a significant amount of defects. I have encountered memory cards from Kingston that just died after a few months of use. But my unit is fine, it has been working since 2018.
