Which is better: wet or dry heating element in a water heater?Learning the design features, pros and cons of "wet" and "dry" heating elements in water heaters

Detailed FAQ on storage water heatersWe answer the most common questions regarding the installation and operation of storage water heaters
Model overview based on user reviews
The Electrolux EWH Heatronic Slim DryHeat is a narrow water heater model that offers a compact design. However, it has a significant issue with its thermostat calibration. Users have reported that when set to Eco mode at 55 degrees, the boiler heats water up to 82 degrees, and when set to 35 degrees, it heats up to 57 degrees. This discrepancy can lead to premature wear and tear, as the tanks are not designed to handle such high temperatures consistently. This flaw may contribute to the tanks starting to leak after a year or two of use. Overall, while the model is functional, it lacks precision in temperature control, which is a crucial aspect for long-term reliability.
Pros
Cons
A small storage water heater was needed for my work. I opened a small massage parlor where, besides me, a colleague also works and, as you understand, it is difficult to do professional massage without warm water. Beautiful, stylish, and most importantly, a fairly fast storage water heater with good thermal insulation. It has a classic round body, but unlike regular wide profiles, the tank's diameter is significantly smaller, only 340 mm. This allows for a more rational approach to placement; for example, I figured out how to install it in an existing niche in the room. The heating control is very simple, with the temperature maintained by a thermomechanical device - a thermostat. I also consider this a plus because modern digital technology is significantly less reliable, often failing due to voltage spikes, which happen frequently in our electrical networks. This kind of thermostat is not afraid of high voltage at all, and while it might not achieve ultra-precise regulation, that's not necessary here. A real difference of 3-4 degrees doesn't particularly affect anything. The maximum water temperature in this model is 75 degrees, but the manufacturer recommends using the eco-mode marked with an appropriate label on the regulator. In this mode, the water heats to 50-55 degrees and it takes no more than 70 minutes with a 1500 W heating element. Of course, the time may vary depending on the initial water temperature, but you won't have to wait long for warm water in any case. By the way, the device is equipped with a dry heating element, which, thanks to its special design, does not accumulate limescale. Actually, when buying, I initially planned to stick to 2500 UAH, but I couldn't resist. The brand is reputable, and a 24-month full warranty is not something to overlook either. )) |
The thermostat is not calibrated. With the Eco mode set to 55 degrees, the boiler heats the water up to 82 degrees (steam goes). When the mode is set to 35, the water heats up to 57 degrees. Now it is clear why in such and similar boilers after a year or two the tanks begin to flow. They should not work in such modes and not everyone measures the temperature of the outgoing water! Narrow Thermal sensor not calibrated. use Electrolux EWH 80 Heatronic Slim DryHeat less than month |
