Small Saw for Filigree Work

Among other DeWALT reciprocating saws, the DCS310D2 saw looks like a child's toy. But this is a very misleading impression. Despite its very compact size, light weight (only 1.4 kg), and low power, it is a professional saw with decent characteristics. This saw is not designed for rough cutting and dismantling like larger and more powerful models, but for precise, almost filigree work: trimming thin pipes in place, adjusting laminate boards, etc.

But the "DeWALT" approach to tool construction is felt even in such a small tool. It has a fully metal (therefore very reliable and durable) gearbox, LED work area lighting, and smooth start due to electronic speed control (speed is adjusted by changing the effort with which the finger presses the start button).

Transformer Saw

The saw has an interesting feature – an original form factor. The saw body "bends" in the middle like a hunting rifle, allowing the relative position of its two parts to change. The handle can be set at angles of 90º, 135º, and 180º relative to the saw blade. This design allows changing the configuration for using with one or two hands and choosing the most advantageous working position. In the fully "unfolded" state, the tool’s length is only 370 mm, and in the "folded" state – almost half that.

Drawbacks of the Form Factor

The low-power motor (140 watts output) consumes little energy (the saw is powered by batteries with a capacity of 2 Ah, of which there are two in the tool case) and operates quietly. But this medal has a flip side - a short blade stroke (only 14 mm). This means that despite a decent working frequency, the saw's productivity is not particularly impressive, and the saw blades wear out in the same place, closer to the base.
