Impedance

— measurement of the resistance of a part or section of a circuit to direct electric current. To do this, the element under test is placed between the probes and a certain voltage is applied to it; by measuring the current, the device determines the resistance. Accordingly, for such measurements, the device must be equipped with a battery — even if it is a model with an analogue scale that does not have a display.

There are devices capable of measuring ultra-high resistances and even suitable for testing electrical insulation. However, such measurements require a specific mode of operation, so they are not included in this category and are listed separately (see "insulation resistance").
