Satisfied with the tires. Driving through snow feels like you're in a tractor, very confidently. They handle light ice well. On severe ice, caution, distance, and speed compliance help, but overall they remain stable. You notice a wet road more by the wild consumption of windshield washer fluid than by the car's behavior. I didn't find anything negative to say about the tires, except for the price. But this is a case where the result fully meets the expectations of an expensive purchase. Understandable vehicle behavior. High performance on snow. Confident behavior on wet roads. Silence Expensive ![]() |
I'm a fan of Velcro. This is my third season driving these Pirelles. Good, confident tires. The tires easily adapt to different weather conditions - from cold at minus 35 to a thaw at +5. There is no excess softness, which provides pleasant handling sensations, all car movements are distinct and clear. However, I also don't notice any "stiffness" even in freezing conditions. They handle snow or wet roads excellently. There are none as such. There are behavioral features associated with certain weather conditions, namely, if there is hard ice on the road. Here, they say (!), the spikes give a head start to any Velcro. But since I myself only drive a linden and, by and large, have never experienced any difficulties with it, I can’t judge by comparison. ![]() |
I decided to forgo studded tires because I got tired of them lasting a maximum of 2 seasons, after which few studs remain, and the tires do not function properly. I settled on these friction tires because they are claimed to have characteristics of a genuine "Scandinavian" non-studded tire, rather than just winter tires without studs. The clear advantages over studded tires include silence and comfort when driving on asphalt. They do not lose out to studded tires on snow either, even in loose snow up to 15 centimeters deep, I could drive through easily. On ice, it's unlikely to set any records, but that's not my aim. However, the tires provide adequate handling and braking even on ice; the rest is a matter of technique and personal experience. Excellent road performance. Quiet. The premium friction tyre from the Italian brand Pirelli has the properties of studded rubber, demonstrating confident driving performance both when driving on asphalt surfaces and on snowy off-road.
Teamwork
The secret to successfully overcoming ice, slush and wet winter roads lies in the coordinated work of all tyre zones. Thus, the central part of the directional tread provides grip on a snowy road, deep longitudinal grooves effectively remove water and melted snow from the contact patch, and a narrow shoulder area is designed to improve grip on ice. In the "shoulders" a fairly soft composition of the rubber compound was used, due to which the vertical stiffness of the tyre decreased with a parallel increase in the contact patch.
Dense lamelization
All Pirelli Ice Zero FR tread blocks are streaked with a huge number of 3D wave-like sipes, which allow the tyre to more confidently cling to the snow, and also increase the stability of the car when entering corners, along with improved traction and braking performance.
increased attention
Italian developers have paid increased attention to the composition of the rubber compound, which resulted in the preservation of tyre elasticity when the air temperature drops to around -50 °C. In general, the tyre is characterized by a quiet and smooth ride in all conditions of winter movement. The model will not be able to find any cons even with a thorough search, for which it gets a well-deserved place at the top of the Olympus of winter friction tyres.
