Model overview based on user reviews
The Nokian W tires are generally appreciated for their reasonable price and durability, making them a popular choice for city driving and mild winter conditions. Users find them quiet on asphalt and effective on light snow, with some noting their performance as comparable to more expensive brands. However, they are criticized for their poor grip on ice and in harsh snowy conditions, with several users recommending them only for urban use or as an all-season option rather than a dedicated winter tire. The tires are described as wear-resistant and soft, but some users have experienced issues with traction on wet snow and ice. Overall, while they offer good value for money, they may not be suitable for extreme winter conditions, and buyers are advised to check the manufacturing origin, as Finnish-made versions are preferred over Russian ones.

This is one continuous drawback. I've got something to compare it with. I have two cars, one (VAZ 2115) is a misunderstanding, praised by people who have seen nothing else, the second (Hyundai Elka) is Yokohama. These are two big differences. One consolation is the price. People, don't believe the ads, the tires are lousy. Price. This is one big drawback. How can someone write about going 110 on icy roads with these tires - it's probably someone trying to prove themselves. At 70 on ice, it slides like a toad. Not great on slush either. Only grips on light snow. It's the third winter, trying to use it only for work so it's not a pity to ruin. |
Riding into my third winter. I bought it because of the enthusiastic reviews on forums and online store feedback, and after some use, I realized I was led astray! These tires are more like all-season, not winter ones. But I needed pure winter tires, and I wasn't stingy on money, but stories like "why pay more?" left me puzzled. Although this set hasn't worn out yet, I'm already considering getting different tires for next winter, and I'll use these till summer and then in autumn. But on ice, in deep snow, I need different tires. Inexpensive, durable, almost like new after three seasons, not too noisy. A snowy winter with ice is too much for these tires. |
After my bald Barum, this one is a beast! Haven't compared it to others, but it's possible to ride in winter. Tires for the city, for a European winter - snow, rain. Deep snow is also not bad. It's hard to assess on ice, as I haven't used others. But in my opinion, any non-studded tire slides on ice. For a harsh winter, you need to get arctic tires with deep, wide grooves in the tread, soft, grippy, and with frequently cut sipes. This one is an average but decent option. Driving in the snow For harsh snowy and icy conditions, arctica is needed. For a mild winter in the city, it's an excellent inexpensive choice. |
