MICHELIN Alpin 5 225/55 R17 97H *, MO 134177

Michelin Alpin 5 – Outstanding security due to the innovative tehnology A high level of safety is in focus: When developing the new MICHELIN Alpin 5, the objective was reaching a high level of safety under all winter. Two core technologies for optimum winter performance The new resdesignedtread pattern ensures special features: The 'teeth effect',... moreallows the tyre to 'bite' in the snow and so to better resist aquaplaningThe new premium tire has a directional tread, an arrow-shaped profile, as well as specially designed tread blocks with high negative proportion. This makes the tyre to press in the snow, causing a sort of 'teeth effect'. Thanks to the realignment of the side channels, the water is efficiently derived aside, reducing the risk of aquaplaning significantly. Claw effect for more traction on snowThe slats act like thousands of tiny claws that snag on the ground and produce traction. This effect is all the more effective when the tire has a high number of slats. MICHELIN Alpin 5 has, compared to its predecessor in size 205/55 R16 over more that 12% tread pattern and 16% more slats. Also the tread's negative proportion is increased by 17%. Contact surface effect for a better steering precisionThe 'StabiliGrip' tehnology ensures a special tread which allows higher steering precision. The larger the contact area on the ground, the better the grip. Because the tyre deforms at each wheel rotation, the Michelin engineers have specifically designed the tread pattern so that the sipes in the tread block block themselves. Efect: the tread block remains stable despite its sipes, which ensures a high steering precision. The new rubber compound also has excellent properties on dry and wet surfaces and on snow: The high silica content in the rubber compound ensures better grip on dry and wet roads. For the first time in the production of a winter tyre, Michelin utilised the inovative 'Tread Compound Technology' and included functional elastomers (synthetic rubber) in the material compund. These functional elastomers allow a very homogeneous rubber mixture with a higher silica content and thus provide better grip on wet and snowy roads, without compromising the energy efficiency of the tire. In addition, the new rubber compound also includes Michelin's fourth generation of 'Helio Compound Technology'. Through the use of sunflower oil, the tyre performance is optimized even at very low temperatures.

MICHELIN Alpin 5 (*) MO

The Michelin Alpin 5 225/55 R17 97 H (*) MO is a premium winter touring tyre that replaces the Alpin A4. The tyre is geared towards compacts, mid-range and large saloons. When a study by VUFO concluded that 57% of road accidents occur on dry road surfaces, Michelin took this as an opportunity to improve the wet and dry performance of its winter ty... moreres. The Michelin Alpin 5 225/55 R17 97 H (*) MO's tread pattern features deeper grooves and a 17% higher void ratio than the Alpin A4, which improves its snow and wet performance. Michelin's “Stabiligrip Technology”, which helps the tyre retain its overall rigidity, uses three-dimensional intersecting sipes to improve the rigidity of the tread blocks. With a 16% increase in the number of sipes in the Michelin Alpin 5 225/55 R17 97 H (*) MO, the tyre's stability is increased. The rubber in the Michelin Alpin 5 225/55 R17 97 H (*) MO uses Michelin's fourth generation silica-based rubber compound, HelioCompound 4G. This contains a sunflower oil base that allows the tyre to retain its softness, even at low temperatures.

Model overview based on user reviews
The Michelin Alpin 5 is highly praised for its quiet and smooth performance, even at high speeds. Users appreciate its excellent handling on highways and its ability to navigate through slush and snow confidently. The tire is described as soft and comfortable in various temperatures, maintaining good traction on both dry and wet surfaces. It performs well on ice, though some users note it may slip when starting uphill. Despite its higher price, many find it worth the investment due to its superior comfort and quietness compared to studded tires. Overall, the Michelin Alpin 5 is considered an excellent choice for winter driving, especially for those who prioritize a quiet and smooth ride.

In short, the tire is excellent but not for ice.
19 February 2021
Tires for the track. Ideal when summer is no longer possible and thorns are still early.
It’s quiet, it handles perfectly on the highway at a speed of 150 km/h, it doesn’t drag even at 170, it moves like a tank through slush, the main thing is that there is no ice under the snow.
When starting uphill on ice, it grinds, just don’t move. Even at a speed of 60, when you sharply press the gas, it slips into the axle box. This is my second winter, but next season I’ll take a studded one.
