A very unusual and positive nettop!
27 May 2014
In principle, it turns out a bit more expensive than assembling a regular computer with the same specifications. But in return, you get not a bulky and noisy box, but something neat and small. Intel is clearly moving in the right direction. I think that in a few years, these small computers will certainly push the usual boxes aside. I hope to get a chance to play with such a system more in the future. For now, I’m reading reviews and articles online, and the impressions are very positive. Any shortcomings will likely be addressed, as Intel has always known how to achieve its goals and make good things. I might even get myself such a computer next time. Although it’s more likely that I will wait for a new version with USB 3.0.
Charming little gadget :) It didn't work for long, but a friend brought this thing over, let me play with it for a few days :) Truly an awesome computer: small, very well built, nice-looking, decent performance, no louder than a laptop. Didn't notice overheating, everything worked more than stably. Nothing unnecessary, just a tiny box equipped with only the essentials. The monitor connects via HDMI, thank goodness manufacturers are gradually moving away from the outdated VGA. Loved the customization option - the machine I tested didn't have a storage device, you decide whether to put in a hard drive or SSD. There's also a Mini-PCIe slot, you can install a Wi-Fi card, very useful too. And the memory works in dual-channel mode. Hadn't seen that in nettops before! After testing, the little machine left only the most positive impressions.
I haven't used the computer long enough to uncover hidden flaws. From the obvious ones, I only found the lack of USB 3.0. These days, that's a significant oversight. On the plus side, there's the Thunderbolt, which no one really needs yet, but Intel is actively promoting, and Apple is also on board. The interface itself is definitely interesting, with great potential. But on such a small device, it looks a bit odd, especially considering the glaring lack of USB 3.0, which is far more popular. By the way, they could've added more USB ports. I also read online that overheating is possible, but only with non-standard use, which I didn't do, so I didn't notice anything like that.
